Masculine Waxing
Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Brazilian or Hollywood wax on a man?

A Brazilian wax removes all hair around the pubic bone but does not include the penis or testicles.

If you wish to include the penis and testicles, this is referred to as a Hollywood wax.

Are there any contraindications to waxing?

Yes. Waxing may not be suitable if you have:

  • Active skin infections (e.g. herpes simplex, impetigo)
  • Fungal infections (e.g. thrush, athlete’s foot in waxing area)
  • Severe varicose veins in the treatment area
  • Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis (when inflamed or broken)
  • Contagious diseases or undiagnosed rashes
  • Sunburn or recent sun exposure (within 24–48 hours)
  • Recent chemical peels or microdermabrasion on the area
  • Very sensitive or broken skin
  • Recent surgery or scar tissue less than 6 months old in the area
  • Diabetes – Delayed healing and increased infection risk
  • Pregnancy – Especially for intimate waxing (use caution and avoid in the first trimester unless client is comfortable and experienced with waxing)
  • Blood thinning medication – Increased risk of bruising or bleeding
  • Skin-sensitising medications (e.g. Roaccutane, Retin-A, steroid creams)
  • Recent radiotherapy or chemotherapy

There are many more conditions that may apply — if you're unsure, please contact us and we’ll be happy to advise. A doctor's note may be required in some cases. Be sure to inform us of any medical conditions prior to your appointment.

Who performs male waxing at Halo Therapies?

All male waxing treatments are performed by Sarah, a specialist in this area with over 4 years of experience and thousands of waxes completed. Male intimate waxing requires precision, skill, and professionalism — Sarah is considered an expert in the field.

Do men really get waxed?

Absolutely. From bodybuilders, athletes, and dancers to professionals and everyday men, male waxing is increasingly popular. Many men choose waxing for hygiene, aesthetics, or comfort — and yes, some simply feel cleaner and more confident afterwards.

Warning!

Once you’ve waxed for your significant other, you might never want to go back to hair.

I’m nervous – I’ve never had a wax before. What should I expect?

  • Please ensure you're freshly showered before your appointment.
  • You'll be welcomed into a clean, professional, private treatment room.
  • The therapist will step out while you undress. You'll lie down with a towel covering yourself.
  • For a Hollywood wax, the full area will need to be exposed, but discretion is always used.
  • Sarah will help you feel at ease quickly, and you’ll leave with a full aftercare guide.

I’ve had a bad waxing experience. How are you different?

Sarah has performed over 10,000 waxes (men and women) and has developed a pain-minimising, skin-safe technique.

She takes pride in her work, and her clients travel from across the UK for treatment. For first-timers, she works slowly and carefully, stopping if needed — and you're always welcome to bring someone along for support.

Will it hurt?

There’s some discomfort — especially during your first wax — but it’s manageable. After shaving, your hairs are thick and rooted. On the second visit, the hairs are finer and easier to remove, which means less discomfort. Many clients say it’s not as bad as they expected.

Does waxing the testicles hurt? Will the skin come off?

With the right technique, most clients find it far less painful than expected. Sarah’s approach ensures the skin remains intact — damage is extremely rare.

Is it normal to get a bruise?

No, but it can happen — especially if the skin isn’t stretched properly or due to medical conditions or medication. If waxing is performed correctly, bruising should not occur.

What is a full body wax?

A full body wax removes all visible hair (except fine peach fuzz) from the neckline down to the toes. We offer package pricing as it can be expensive to book areas individually.

I’m very hairy — can waxing still work for me?

Yes! It doesn’t matter how much hair you have — a strip of wax is a strip of wax. In fact, clients who’ve had laser treatments often follow up with waxing to maintain a smooth finish.

What if I get an erection during waxing?

It’s not uncommon and nothing to be embarrassed about — we understand. We do our best to keep you comfortable and covered. If needed, we’ll pause or move to a different area until it passes.

What will I wear during the wax?

You’ll be given a towel to drape over yourself. We always work to maintain your modesty and keep you as comfortable as possible.

How long should my hair be before waxing?

At least ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice). Please don’t shave or trim before your appointment.

How long will the results last?

Expect some regrowth within a week after your first wax due to hair growth cycles. After a few sessions, regrowth slows down and thins out. Most clients wax every 4–6 weeks. You’ll stay smoother longer and avoid the itchy regrowth associated with shaving.

Will I bleed?

You might notice a small drop of blood from the follicle — this is normal and stops quickly. We recommend using a gentle antiseptic cream for a few days after your treatment.

Will waxing stop hair growth permanently?

Not entirely — but regular waxing will thin the hair and slow regrowth over time.

I feel embarrassed. How can I be more comfortable getting waxed?

You’re not alone — many clients feel nervous at first. But Sarah is highly professional, respectful, and skilled at putting people at ease. You’ll be surprised how quickly the awkwardness disappears.

I’m transgender — am I welcome at your salon?

Absolutely. Halo Therapies is open-minded, inclusive, and respectful. You are warmly welcomed here.

I don’t want to wax but I’d like my hair trimmed — can you do that?

Yes. We can clip or trim hair on most areas of the body (excluding the testicle area). It’s a great alternative for those who don’t want a full wax.

Can I contact you with questions?

Yes! Sarah is the sole therapist performing male waxing. You’re welcome to call or email with questions — just include “waxing” in your subject line so it doesn’t go to spam.
